First Conference In Traverse City
05/1992
|
May of 1992 brought me to the Park Place Hotel for my first Michigan College and Univrsity Placement Conference. I had settled into my beautiful room when I heard water running. I checked in the bathroom and found water running from the ceiling above the bath tub into the tub. I call the front desk and a maintenance person arrived within minutes. The problem was solved quickly by the very cordial individual. I have always had a great stay in the Park Place Hotel.

Everyone was more than helpful and the service and food were excellent! Mike and Colleen offered many suggestions which we took and were happy we did so. Favorable comments from many guests were received and we feel it was a great success. Thanks to Mike, Colleen and staff for the beautiful room and great food.

Meeting Tarzan
07/1968
|
My brother, Brian Gavan, and I were visiting our Grandparents, Howard & Bertha Arnold. We went for a walk to the Park Place knowing Ron Ely of the Tarzan TV show was in town. As we walked to the entrance wondering if we would see him a tall man came up behind us and opened the door for us. As he walked past we realized that the man opening the door was Ron Ely. We were 12 & 14 years old and could not get home fast enough to tell Grandma & Grandpa.

Sneaking In

When I was a child and lived in downtown Traverse City, me and my friends would sneak into the Park Place pool pretending to be kids of guests. We had allot of fun. I think we were only kicked out once or twice. I have since moved away, but return occasionally as a real guest.

Guys weekend before the wedding
07/2003
|
A few weeks before the big wedding (and during the Cherry Festival), a group of college buddies stayed at the Park Place for a guys weekend. We golfed, rented jet skis on the bay, canoed on the Platte River, and took in a few concerts at the Festival. The price was reasonable, rooms were very comfortable, and the hospitally outstanding. Looking forward to making the Park Place a part of my wedding.

Our Engagement
10/2004
|
For the three year anniversary of our first date my now fiance, Brian, surprised me with a weekend at Park Place. Our room was on the top floor with a spectacular view. We spent Saturday touring local wineries and enjoyed a dinner aboard the Traverse City dinner train. Later that evening Brian asked me to be his wife. We went up to the Beacon lounge and celebrated. We drank champagne and the band played us a song. It was the best night of my life. Now we are trying to plan our wedding reception there next year. Thanks for the great weekend!

Brunch
08/1979
|
I was born and raised in Traverse City and have since moved due to my job. However, even though I have been gone about 19 years, I still remember the beautiful brunch that was served on Sundays. It was such a special treat for my daughter and myself to have brunch. Oh, how I cherish those precious memories.

Childhood at the Park Place Hotel
05/1905
|
My parents brought us from Grand Rapids to stay at the Park Place Hotel on my fathers business trips to Traverse City in the late 1960’s. I have found memories of learning to swim and diving in the deep end off the diving board when I was 6-10 years of age. Later we moved up and bought a 350 acre cherry farm on the Leelanau peninsula which became a children’s camp and then a year round alternative school called SOLAR. We would bring our school class in for swim lessons at that famous pool under the glass dome. I also attended a high school prom in the grand ballroom in 1978. All great memories, and one day I hope to return with my new family and stay at the great hotel with a pool that my small ones will surely enjoy as much as I did. Some things change in life, nice to know the traditions and excellence still continue with land mark hotels like the Park Place. May I wish the Park Place continued success for many years to come.

Meeting a Legend
07/1980
|
I worked at the Park Place, in the Parlor as a waitress. I loved the uniform, looked like something from the turn of the century. My best day was when I got to wait on Dorothy Lamour as she had lunch. She ordered a Monte Cristo sandwich and some hot tea. She was very gracious, polite and called me "sweetie". I believe she may have been in town for a Cherry County Playhouse production. I

When I was about 10 years old my parents, who had a summer cottage on Big Platte Lake, would treat their four children once a summer to dinner at the Park Place Hotel and a play at the Cherry Theater in the round. I can still remember the great food, view from the top, and atmosphere. I also remember sitting on the aisle in the round theater and touching the actresses

Meeting a Movie Star !
04/1964
|
As a young girl,I used to stay often at the hotel and my favorite was the pool area. One day while sitting there I realized there was Dennis Weaver, a movie star sitting right next to me. He was appearing in a play at the Cherry Hill Playhouse. He was great, let me take pictures, signed an autograph and let me introduce him to my aunt and other quests. A great experience for a 9 year old girl.

Swim race
06/1972
|
During the summer of 1972 I accompanied my dad on a business trip and we stayed at the Park Place. As a 10 year old girl, I was treated like a princess. I ate lobster for the first time at the Top of the Park, and we attended a play staring Bob Crane. The next day while swimming in the pool, an elderly gentlemen challenged me to a race. I agreed, but insisted he take a head start. After he took a few strokes, I ran around the pool deck and jumped in near the wall before he reached it. Imagine his suprise to see that I had beat him. Everyone around the pool was laughing histarically. Even his wife. She winked at me and told me my secret was safe with her. Great childhood memories.

Sunday Dinners with Mom and Dad
09/1965
|
I entered Interlochen Arts Academy in 1965. It was the first time I had ever been separated from my family. Almost every Sunday for three years during the school year, my Mom and Dad drove up from Flushing to pick me up and go to dinner at the Park Place. I think of those afternoons with great affection.

great location
07/2005
|
We booked a room at the Park Place. It was fantastic. We had a balconie room that overlooked downtown. It was so nice to sit out and enjoy the sights. We walked over to the bay and spent a few hours. We had 2 teenagers with us and the location is so convienient, with the downtown shops, beach, and little zoo. I have been looking forward to returning. Thanks, Deb

My Birth
02/1947
|
Feb, 1947 my parents were living in Traverse City where my father worked as a chef at the Park Place. I was born at Grand Traverse Hospital during this time. My parents are both gone now but I am glad to have the knowledge of my papa working as a chef at the Park Place Hotel at the time of my birth. Everyone says I inherited his talent for cooking.

WEDDING!
09/2004
|
My husband and I were married on September 4, 2004 and held our reception at the TOP of the PARK at the Park Place Hotel. The reception was beautiful at the Top, the hotel took care of every detail we had requested. It was the most beautiful sight looking out of the windows and people still comment on the view and the food. We stayed in the presidential suite that night and it was equally magnifacint! Thanks to the Park Place for the memory!

My Father's Wedding

As I walked my father down the isle atop the Park Place Hotel I remember it being so beautiful. It was October and all of the leaves were a perfect color of orange, red, and yellow. My father treated everyone of his guests to a weekend in paradise to share in his happiness. We celebrated the wedding and the reception here. All of the staff was great and couldn
